San Miguel del Socorro Misson, Socorro, New Mexico, was established by 1821. It served families of the surrounding area including La Joya de Sevilleta.
Victor Duran Avenue in today's Rodey, New Mexico, was named for Victor Duran, husband of Victoria Gabaldon, and son of Esequio Duran and Rosa Benavides. The Duran family was among the first settlers of what was originally called El Colorado, New Mexico. Victor (Jose Vitoro) Duran was born 6 March 1841 in Sabino, New Mexico, north of Socorro. He served during the Civil War as a sargeant and was among the voluntary militia of El Colorado. He married Maria Victoria Gabaldon, daughter of Jose Pablo Gabaldon and Ana Maria de la Cruz Aragon of La Joya de Sevilleta, New Mexico, on 14 August 1861 and the marriage is recorded at San Miguel del Socorro Church.
