A
Tribute to our first dog Mordred |
|
March
19th, 2005, our dog Mordred passed away. Here is a small tribute
to our lives together.
Mordred
was born in July 1994 and arrived in our house in August 1994.
Scott mentioned one day it would be nice to have a dog, and the
next day he arrived at the volleyball court with a little fluff
ball we named Mordred.
|
|
Mordred was a Rottweiller-Shepard
mix. Rottie pups are very calm, shepard pups are very active.
Mordred definitely took after the shepard side.
|
|
Here at Christmas time,
he is only 5 months old and already very large. But what a cute
mug he has.
|
|

After 4 months
of trying to calm the very large active puppy down, he started
eating the siding off our house. So, our solution was to get
our dog his own puppy. Meet Guinevere.
Guin had
no fear, and Mordred stopped eating the siding on the house.

|
|
Instead, he spent a lot
of his time chewing on Guin. They seemed to be a match made in
heaven. Guin was VERY protective of us, but Mordred care only
for Guin.
Scott's
brother Steve lived with us for about a year. The dogs loved
him too. He let them snuggle on the bed. Problem was there was
no room left for Steve.
|
|
The last member of our
family was our black cat, Merlin. They spent MANY hours in this
pose throughout the house. Merlin tormented these two for 7 years.
|
|
We would
visit our dear friend Trudi up in her cabin in the moutains of
Arnold CA. The dogs frequently slept with her. Luckily her bed
was larger.
This is
Trudi's dog Kandi. It is also the first time Mordred and Guin
had seen snow. Mordred started with his paws spread very wide.
He finally got the hang of walking on top of the snow, so he
decided to run. The first step all 130 lbs of him went leg deep
into the snow. He is just pulling himself out in this pic.
|
|
For
a short time we had a boat. Again, the dogs were fearless as
long as they were with us. And they made a great counterweight
in the front of the boat while skiing.
We finally moved from Northern CA. When we were moving into the
house in Dover, we made Mordred and Guin hang out on the back
deck. Mordred spent the entire time watching us with his head
as far into the house as he could fit it. After 2 years in Dover,
Scott was picked up for Test Pilot School in southern CA.
|
|
So, off to Edwards CA.
This is our backyard, Big Black Dogs and 120 deg F in August,
really did not mix very well. But Mordred made new friends.
Here Mordred is saying
hi to our friend Violet and her mom Sandy.
|
|
It always amazed us how
these two big dogs never had enough space, but then turned around
and fit onto one small bed.
|
|
Climbing the LA mountains.
Mordred finally starts showing his age. But he had a bright life
in his eyes.
Hanging
out at Edwards. Mordred had this amazing ability to be exactly
where you were going to step next. He was ALWAYS next to one
of us. He was such a home body.
Visiting
Joshua Tree National Monument. The lives of these two was about
to change. I'm 3 months pregnant in this photo.

After Nathan arrived, now
Mordred and another person to be right next to. Here they are
watching Baby Mozart.
In the
end, Mordred enjoyed being climbed by Nathan most of all. He
was always as close to him as he could be. Too bad he never met
Kate. Those two would have matched wits.
Mordred,
we will miss you...
As Nathan
put it.... "Mommy, Mommy, Mordred is gone and is not coming
back. My God took him"
