02-20-2005 Cleaning Day at Maxie's

Sunday, February 20, it is muggy and humid early in the morning. After breakfast we gear up for a round of serious housecleaning. The guy who moved in with a big 5th wheel yesterday was on top of his roof at 8:00 a.m. with a bucket and a scrub brush. I guess it must be cleaning day here at Maxie's Campground. That guy was a whirlwind; cleaning his entire RV, top to bottom, and then he moved on to clean his huge pickup truck. Oh, to be young again! (I'm thinking late 20's or early 30's.) We barely survived just cleaning the inside. I was already feeling like an old lady this morning when I woke up with a return of my lower back pain. Oddly enough, moving around while cleaning actually helped me a bit. I had a major cleaning of the front and back doors, inside and out, screens and all. I had to move the DeLorean out of the way in order to reach the back door.

By 12:00 we had the RV and ourselves cleaned up. We had soup and a salad for lunch and then we went up to the office to pay for another week since we made a command decision to stay for a while and catch up on things. A week cost us $97.20 so you can't beat the price. The owner has a cute Schnauzer/Terrier-type dog named Bandit; very cute and friendly. Next we went up to Albertson's. We got a Sunday paper at the convenience store next door and some fruit and milk at Albertson's grocery. The store was very expensive. We wondered if they're the only game in town here in Broussard.

Back home we read the Baton Rouge paper and watched the PGA rained-out golf tournament on TV while we watched the show going on outside of our window. First, two pickups came and a gal and two guys and a kid jumped out and started circling the Prowler Travel Trailer in the circle on our streetside. Then the one guy left in his bright red pickup. Just then a huge Class A pulled half way through the circle and stopped to unhitch their toad. Meanwhile, the red pickup returns and backs up to the Prowler, sliding right in front of the guy in the Class A. Finally the motorhome guy gets his toad unhooked, his wife backs is across the road, he backs the motorhome in two slots from our curbside and the guy in the red truck pulls the Prowler out of the Park right after that.

Not 10 minutes later a huge 5th wheel comes around the circle and makes a wide swing, just missing the front of our truck and trailer. He backs into the slot next to us on our curbside with inches to spare on his slideout (the sites are smaller than usual here.) About an hour later, the oldest Class C I've ever seen (moving that is) comes in with the tackiest paint job I've ever seen. He backs into the slot on the circle that the Prowler just vacated. The bottom three-quarters of his motorhome is deer hunter orange and the top one-quarter is army green.

We can't figure out where all of this activity came from. It's been quiet here, except for the road noise, without much in and out RV traffic. Tomorrow is President’s Day but the weekend is almost over by now. And there's really not much to do in the area in the way of major tourist draws. Maybe they're all going to Avery Island for the day on Monday. We plan to go later in the week because we want to get a tour of the Tabasco factory while it is in operation.

Later in the evening I tried to call my sister but got no answer. When I talked to my folks last night, Dad said he had tried to reach her and got word that she was traveling on business for a while.

It's 11:15 p.m. and 65.7 degrees.
