We pulled right through the mud in front of our site with no problem. We said goodbye to Manuel on the way out at 11:20. Our air lists seem to have improved the towing a great deal. We still need to adjust and tweak them for a bit but all was well. We re-traced our original route from when we left Elgin last March (there are only so many ways to by-pass Houston if you head east from Austin.) We gave a wide berth to the picnic area on Hwy 79 that we had an ugly incident in last year-ha-ha!
I popped Jimmy LaFave in the CD so we could groove on Highway Trance--our road tune. We recorded our beginning mileage in order to track the miles we put on the trailer and noted that we drove around 2500 miles since we arrived in Elgin two months ago.
By 2:20 we arrived in Madisonville (132 miles) This is our first time to return to the same RV Park (except for Pleasant Grove of course.) All of the pipelines who were here last year are gone. The guy who owns the park came by while we were setting up and said they all left after only four months. He didn't seem happy about all of the sites they had added to the park for them. They thought the job might last 12-18 months. The office was closed when we arrive (the guy said she'd be back late afternoon) so we walked around and picked one of the many empty site (#27), purposely avoiding our prior pull-thru site in favor of a semi-dry space across the road.
We did pretty well at remembering all of our set-up procedures. We weren't too rusty after two months off duty. After unpacking we headed north on I-45 to find a bite to eat. We found Huang's Chinese at the Madisonville exit and enjoyed their $5.95 buffet. They had great coconut macaroons on the salad/dessert bar. A nice treat! Back at "Home On The Range RV Park" , we packed up the laundry and walked it over to their big laundry room (3 washers and 3 dryers.) Bob got his fly rod and did pretty well with the bass while I enjoyed my book (The Bedford Incident) at the laundry room in a lawn chair Bob was nice enough to bring over for me.
By 5:30 we were all done and walked to the office but she wasn't back yet so we put our payment for one night ($20.00) in the night slot. It is hard to believe we're moving again tomorrow! But we already know there's nothing to do here in this town. We have one TV channel since the cable is not working. I guess they dropped it after the pipe liners left. Actually, I went back and read my journal from 3-01-2004 when we were here last time and discoverd we had no TV channels then either. The cable lines were here but not working back then either. Bob asked the guy today if he could get propane and he still doesn't have his tank operational. There's a trend here. We read The Houston Chronicle (we had our choice of real papers here halfway between Dallas and Houston.) It is weird to not have the Austin American-Statesman though. It is also weird to look out the window and see a whole new view. That's always a shock when you move your RV; how the light and scenery change when your couch and recliner stays the same. We have quite a bit of road noise here from I-45.
We worked the NYT crossword and watched CSI and Without a Trace. Bob got the maps and campground guide out to pick a place to go tomorrow.
It's 11:35 p.m. and 46.6 degrees. We had a high of 59 today but the air felt cool all day since the breeze was from the north.
