02-02-2005 Rain on the Groundhog

Wednesday, February 2, ain't no way Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today in Texas, but apparently he did in Pennsylvania which is where it counts. The rain persists here. There are deep puddles throughout the RV Park this morning. It must have rained all night.

Bob and I drove into Austin for some errands. We only have a short time left before we leave behind the streets and places we are familiar with. We stopped at the bank at Parmer Lane first. They didn't have the forms we needed so they sent us to the branch on 183. On the way we stopped at the Cingular franchise on Parmer. They referred us to Cingular's headquarters at I-35 and 290 for Laptop Connect cards. We're not doing so well on our errands so far this morning. "Onward thru the fog" as they say in Austin. We head to the bank on 183, passing through the Twilight Zone as we cut through Riata past the old EDS building where I worked. The parking lot is full and there is an Apple logo on the sign out front.

We wasted about an hour at the other bank branch but we persevered and accomplished what we needed to. We tried the Cingular branch at 183 and 360. They had the info we needed but we're holding out for their next special pricing deal. We took Loop 1 to La Frontera through the construction nightmare. We ate at Applebee's while watching drizzling rain with the A/C blowing cold air on us and a lady in the booth behind us blowing hot air the whole time about her impending pregnancy. Way too much information!

Back to Elgin we went, stopping at Movie Gallery for a few more flicks. We earned a free one for next time if we can fit it in before we leave town. Back home we read the paper while the little heaters worked hard to fight off the damp chill. About 6:30 we headed to Glenda's. What a bummer, instead of seeing Jed Bartlett in the White House we have to watch 'W' give his State of the Union address. Glenda has a nice fire going. It was very inviting and her new coffee smelled wonderful.

I logged on and got several things accomplished. I'm feeling particularly smug about finding the problem with our DeLorme Mapping Software out at the Tech Support link on their website. I downloaded the patch and Voila! our glitch was fixed. I also got more IRS forms and another form with instructions for the great boat registration debacle. At 8:00 p.m. we listened to 'W' who had about half of the legislature with him (I wonder which half that was?) on most issues. We took a break for coffee, tea and Decadent Chocolate Torte--very yummy.

We left the warmth of Glenda's fading embers and got home just after 11:00. We got brave and had left the little heaters on low so it wasn't nearly as chilly as usual. We read in bed until we started "agreeing with everything" as my brothers always say about nodding off.
