01-29-2005 Eastside Cafe, Austin

Saturday, January 29, I was up at 8:00 and not very impressed with the fog and drizzle. I turned on the morning shows (unusual for me) to get the weather. No real rain is in the forecast but when Val and Dolph called around 10:00 a.m. (I had to call them back; the phone refuses to ring again) we all agreed after some discussion that it was too soggy and playing conditions would be too awful. So we cancelled our 12:30 round at Falcon Head and opted for dinner at 4:00 at Eastside Cafe in Austin.

I had heard many good things about Eastside Cafe and had always wanted to check it out. Bob and I lazed around, read, and I journaled some (it was fun to post my Melting Pot pictures right out of the digital camera!), watched the Bob Hope Classic and left just after 3:00. We stopped for gas in Elgin and I got the last paper at the convenience store. We zoomed by Eastside on Manor Road and as we turned around we saw Val and Dolph go by. Soon we all pulled in the parking lot. Katie has sure grown tall. Her hair is so long now. What a cutie!

The menu at Eastside had lots of great selections. I had a hard time choosing but I finally settled on the Artichoke Cannelloni. Bob chose the Seafood Cannelloni in a saffron sauce. We both tried the Lentil Mushroom soup. Val had my other choice, the Salmon Ravioli. Katie's eyes lit up when they offered an angel hair pasta with tomato sauce.

Everything was great and we topped it off with dessert. Bob and I split the Pumpkin Gingerbread while Val chose a cherry cobbler. Dolph was being good so he can get in his tux for next month's family wedding. The food and the company were great. I was glad we got together even if we nixed the golf in favor of food. None of us wanted to pay for high dollar golf on such a crummy day. But the weather is always perfect for eating!

Bob and I stopped at the Movie Gallery in Elgin to return our movies and pick up a few more. We have really been making up for our ten movie-less months on the road since we've been back in Elgin. Back home we read the paper and I finally remembered to call Ed and Linda, our new Missouri golf friends. They're researching new mattresses and wanted the scoop on our Sleep Number bed. They had 1 1/4" of snow up there today but it was mostly melted off of the roads already.

Patti called later from Central Missouri so we got another weather update. It sounds much colder up there. We chatted for a bit. Bob and I worked the puzzles from the paper and watched CSI: Weekends.

It's 1:20 a.m. and 48.4 degrees.
