01-27-2005 Laundry and The Melting Pot
Thursday, January 27, rain was tapping on the roof vent when I woke up this morning. It really rained off and on all day. After breakfast we loaded up the laundry and headed into Elgin in a pouring rain. We found out that Thursday is 'guy' day at the laundry mat. We had one washing machine with a belt that smelled like it was burning. In fact, smoke was coming out of it. But our 23-minute cycle made it all of the way through. And we got two dryers that actually worked, but we had to grab the last two. Some lady who was there when we arrived had seven dryers going. We got a kick out of the way they all stopped at once and she stuffed everything into her laundry baskets, put it in the car and headed home without folding a thing.
We were home by 2:30. I made a chicken and vege pizza. I don't mind firing up the oven on a chilly day; high of 50 today. We read the paper then I got ready to meet the gals at The Melting Pot tonight at 6:30. I drove to Austin in a steady rain the whole way. Patti, Holly and Liz were waiting for me in the lobby. We were seated at a one-pot table. The fondue burners are built right into the tables. Liz brought me the cutest Starbuck's thermos (a bag of coffee included!) It is the perfect size for a backpack!
We shared fondue for two; Liz and Patti had the general selection and Holly and I had Pacific-Rim which consisted of chicken, pork tenderloin, shrimp and venison.) We all started with a Three Wisconsin Cheese fondue with apples, bread cubes and vegetables for dipping. Then we had a great Raspberry Vinaigrette salad. Finally they brought the main entrees which we cooked on our fondue forks in a Coq du Vin base. Several tasty sauces were served; yogurt curry, ginger soy, gorgonzola cheese, cocktail sauce and spinach ranch.)
It was all great fun and we were stuffed. You know there was too much food when I was too stuffed to stay for the Chocolate Dessert Fondue. Oh well, next time...It was nice to visit with good friends and share such a fun experience.
It was a long drive home in a misty rain. I got back just before 10:00 p.m., pretty late for an old lady. It felt good to be home on a miserable night. Bob had watched his guy flick but said it wasn't a very good one.
It's 11:30 p.m. and 45.5 degrees.
