01-21-2005 IHOP, Air Lifts and Driving Range

Friday, January 21, I was up early at around 5:45 a.m. We skipped breakfast in order to get to Austin for a 9:00 a.m. appointment. We are having Air Lift load levelers put on The Beast to try to improve our ride. They need the truck for three hours for the installation so we hoofed it a little over a mile to IHOP on 183 for breakfast. We took the back roads from Anderson Lane through the neighborhoods to avoid the zooming traffic along 183. I found a mailbox for my letters on the IHOP parking lot. The trouble with breakfast at IHOP is that it's too BIG!

Fortunately we had to walk another mile back. We stopped at a shopping center at Anderson across from the truck place. I browsed Mervyn's while Bob searched Hobby Lobby for fly tying materials. We rendezvoused at the shop where The Beast was sticking out of the bay with both back wheels off. We hung around the smelly rubber tires in the waiting room until about 12:30 when our truck was ready to roll.

On the way back to Elgin we stopped at the driving range and played a virtual round at Blackhawk, a tough Austin course that we used to frequent. While we were hitting balls some guy in a white pickup ran the red light on Hwy 290 near the driving range and narrowly missed broad siding a van at 70 mph. That'll get your adrenaline going. We stopped for a paper and gas (Wow, gas is up to $1.77 today!) Back home we cleaned grease off of the front seat and seat belt (the mechanic got the seat belt caught in the door catch, evidently.) Bob let some of the air out of the new lifts to try and fine tune the ride. It will take us a while to get it adjusted and then of course the trailer will change everything again.

Bob had a chat with Manuel who was BBQing next door when we got back. We both came in and read the paper. Around 4:45 we headed to Hong Kong in Elgin for dinner. We split the Moo Shu Shrimp and Shrimp and Veges. We both got the exact same fortune in our cookies so I felt cheated (Bob opened his first.) We rented two movies at Movie Gallery this time so we could check on their nationwide policy (which is non-existent!) Then we came home and watched "Chronicles of Riddick" with Vin Diesel.

It's 10:37 and 59.9 degrees. The high today was 74!
