01-15-2005 Mama Mia's with Marilynn

Saturday, January 15, I woke up feeling great this morning. I savored my coffee on this brisk 35 degree day. It was only 62 in the living room when I emerged. We left the thermostat set too low on our little heater last night. We need to bump it up a bit when it gets down in the 30's. My friend, Marilynn, agreed to pick me up for lunch around 1:00. I'm quite sure she has turned over a new leaf; she showed up 20 minutes early. That's a new world's record for her.

We headed down to Bastrop. When she said she had not eaten at Mama Mia's yet I just had to introduce her to genuine Italian food in Bastrop, TX! We both had the Chicken Strata lunch special. She had Tomato Florentine soup and I went with the salad with that delightful Tomato Parmesan dressing. Since we were celebrating our first time together in almost a year we splurged and had Tiramisu. This ranked right up there with the best I've ever had. Very sinful! We chatted and caught up on all of events of the past year. One thing about really good friends, no matter how long it's been since you've seen each other you just pick right up where you left off. I count Marilynn as one of the people it was really hard for me to leave behind.

We stopped at a cute new pet store on the way back through Bastrop for something she needed. They were having their fourth 'dog wash.' I got a cat fix with a cute little white kitten but no dogs were about. We passed by the Elgin Post Office on the way through town and then drove back to Pleasant Grove, while blasting Chris Rea on the CD. She's wanted me to hear his music all year. One of our great joys has been discovering new music around Central Texas. I sure miss all of our wild and crazy discoveries. She insisted I take the Chris Rea CD. When Marilynn finds good music she always wants to share it. She dropped me off around 3:30 or 4:00 and we promised to try to meet again before I leave town.

Bob was watching NY and the Steeler's football game. We both read the Dallas Morning News that I brought home with me. My friend, Valerie, called and we chatted for quite a bit. It's been a day for catching up with good friends. Later on Bob and I split the Chicken Parmesan sandwich I brought for him from Mama Mia's. I spent the evening working on my journal. I took a break and we watched NCIS and As Time Goes By. Bob's watching the Rams and the Falcons now.

It's 10:05 p.m. and 42.7 degrees.
