01-10-2005 Trading Shafts

Monday, January 10, the forecast is for warm weather today and tomorrow, then a cold front later this week. So after breakfast we got in gear and decided to adjust the trailer brakes. First we found Manuel and paid for another month. He introduced us to "Sip" the little white dog that follows him around (as Manuel says like 'Seep of tea')

Back at the trailer we jack up each of the four wheels individually and check the adjustment on the brakes. All is well. We clean up, have a light lunch and since it's only noon we decide to pack up four loads of laundry and head to the Elgin Laundromat (the sign over the door says "Just Like Home"; I don't think so.) Note to self, there are still droves of ladies who think "Monday is wash day" so don't go near a laundry mat on Monday!

We're out of there in two hours. Dryer number 5 got four of our quarters again. We made a mental note this time. Back home we read the paper until 5:00 or so and headed to Steve and Elaine's. Steve has graciously agreed to swap graphite shafts between my Big Bertha driver and Bob's old one. Steve has all of the equipment and epoxy and was nice enough to take on this task for me.

Elaine was already home from work when we arrived. I hopped on-line and checked my mail and printed some digital camera stuff. I got Elaine to call my cell phone because earlier today we noticed it was on ultra quiet ring tone. How do these things change? Spooky! While the epoxy the guys applied was setting up we all piled into Elaine's new car and headed to Mama Mia's in Bastrop. I had Mama's Salmon on a bed of wilted spinach. Bob had Chipotle Chicken and Shrimp which he said was spicy. We all had that tasty Tomato Parmesan dressing, except for Steve who had a delicious looking soup.

We were back at their place by around 8:30. Elaine opened a package of bears that was delivered today. She has a new addition to her immense collection of bears. They are 'Quarter Bears.' The front of each one has a little pocket to put one of the quarters of the 50 States. Each bear has the appropriate state flag its back and the year of statehood on the front. What a cute way to collect the new quarters.

Bob and I were back home by 9:00 p.m. and were pretty exhausted. We watched CSI Miami and then the 2-hour 24 we recorded.

It's 11:41 p.m. and 64.6 degrees.
