01-06-2005 Show-and-Tell at the Quilting Bee

Thursday, January 6, I was up at 7:30. It is cloudy and cold; only 37 degrees. I got my act together quickly this morning. I took down the bedroom window treatments and followed Glenda's directions to her quilting bee at the church hall in Elgin on 8th Street, arriving at 10:00.

I received a warm welcome and it was fun to meet all of Glenda's quilting friends. A few Cedar Hills neighbors were there, Janet included. Show-and-tell was first on the agenda and they let me go first. I showed off Patti's three creative window coverings starting with the backdoor motif of wine, coffee, golf and postcards. Then I displayed Bob's fly tying theme that hangs above the vanity in the bedroom. And finally I held up our new scene of The Beauty itself that covers the window over our bed. All of the ladies seemed impressed with the creativity of Patti's work and noticed the paper piecing right away.

Several other ladies presented items for show-and-tell. I really enjoyed seeing all of their projects. Janet presented her first 'handmade' quilt. It was a cute wall hanging sized quilt of Red Hat Lady comic panels. Great red and purple colors! All of the ladies were very creative and talented. It was a fun way to spend the morning.

I picked up a paper on the way home. It was nice to get back to our cozy trailer on such a cold, wet morning. We read the paper and had leftover pizza for lunch. Then we went in to Elgin to take our movies back to Blockbuster and get new ones. The guy behind the counter was 'reading' our demographics, asking how we liked one of the last movies we saw. That was too creepy for me. "Big Brother is Watching!"

We stopped at HEB for all the ingredients to make chili. Bob made a big ole pot 'o red when we got home. Then we settled in to watch Master and Commander with Russell Crowe. My friend, Jean, called upon her return from a day of antiquing in Victoria (this is what retired people do!) It was fun to chat. She met someone who has been retired for four years and he said he likes to think of himself as four years old. She said that made her three days old! I'm thrilled to be just over one year old. What a great way to look at it. Jean is graciously getting some of our EDS colleagues together at her place next week. I'm excited about that.

It's 7:50 and 39.4 degrees. Later in the evening I called Mom and Dad. Dad is doing great after his cataract surgery and is pleased with the results. I've been trying to call my sister-in-law, Michelle, all week and she has not been home. She was kind enough to chauffer them to and from their appointments this week.
