01-03-2005 The Driving Range at Golfsmith

Monday, January 3, it is a warm and muggy day here in Central Texas. Big puddles accumulated in the road after it rained most of the night. My friend, Marilynn, returned my call after breakfast. She's under the weather with a cold so we agreed to try again Friday to go out to lunch.

Bob and I put The DeLorean back on top of The Beast and marked the centered position so he can fix stops on the rack to make it easier to tie down. We took it for a test drive, had a slight howl and moved it back three inches. After that we heard no howls or whistles so we'll mark it there and put up our backstops.

Around 1:00 we went to Elgin and had lunch at Hong Kong--they were finally open. The convenience store was out of newspapers so we headed west on 290 to the driving range. It was closed for crying out loud. So then we drove into Austin around 2:30 and went to Golfsmith. We checked out their clubs first and I found three 5-woods I wanted to try on the practice range. Bob got a bucket of balls to hit too.

I went home with a new 5-wood that I'm very happy with. It is always fun for a golfer to get a new club:-) A slight rain fell while we were hitting balls but no harm done since the driving range is covered at Golfsmith. We were back in Elgin by 5:00 and stopped at two empty vending machines before finding a paper at the gas station.

Back home we read the paper, had a snack and watched Part 2 of Woodrow Wilson on American Experience on PBS. When I tried to turn on the light above the stove for our snack, nothing happened. Bob took the bulb out; I guess we'll have to hope Wal-Mart has another one like it.

It's 11:15 p.m. and still 67.1 degrees.
