01-01-2005 Happy New Year 2005!

Saturday, January 1, we slept until 8:00; not too bad since we saw in the New Year, and then some for me. It is really warm here today. We started the year right by practicing our putting first thing this morning. I also did my back stretches to ward off sore lower back muscles. I can't do a double feature of Kill Bill without moving around in between. One thing I'm learning about life in an RV is that you don't have to move as far between rooms so you have to make an effort to walk around every once in a while if you're going to have a vege out day.

We had a light breakfast of bagels and then I took down the Christmas decorations. This year that task did not entail as much as in prior years. Fifteen minutes about did it. Then we decided to take advantage of the warm weather and go outside to clean the tar off The Beast. This has been on our list for a while and we ran out of excuses today. Besides, it is good to start the year off clean. We finished up about 1:30 and cleaned up and headed to town hoping to eat at the Chinese place for New Year's. But it was closed! Very strange for a Chinese restaurant I thought. Aren't you supposed to go there on New Year's and get your fortune for the year?

Not surprisingly, every place else in Elgin was closed for the holiday as well except for City Cafe. So we went in and ordered lots of veges and a burger and then splurged on dessert to celebrate 2005. City Cafe has one of the best Carrot Cakes anywhere. Bob had Cherry Pie. We had to go down the street to find a machine with a paper in it but we persevered and took one home, along with half of my cake.

We read the news; 121,000 estimated to be lost in the tsunami. Then we worked the puzzles. Later on we had leftover pizza slices from yesterday. Nothing on TV except football. I'm so sick of hearing about the Longhorns' Rose Bowl game I refuse to watch any football. We have more movies but a few things are coming on at 7 and 8 o'clock so we're stalling. Our New Year's Day holidays are generally low-key and lazy and this one is no exception.

It's 6:20 p.m. and 68.6 degrees.
