12-25-2004 Merry Christmas 2004!

Saturday, December 25, Merry Christmas! It is bright and sunny this morning. The low last night was 26.5 degrees. It was above freezing by 10:00 a.m. Bob hooked the water hose up after breakfast. I made a sweet potato casserole to take to Steve and Elaine's for Christmas dinner. I had a huge pile of dishes from yesterday since the water was off so I spent quite a while cleaning up the kitchen.

We got ready to go and left for our old neighborhood, stopping at the deserted City Cafe to get a paper on the way. I never saw downtown Elgin look so empty. We were greeted by Shadow, Duncan and Misty (their trio of dogs) at the front gate. Turkey aromas poured out of the house and we hurried in out of the cold. Steve and Elaine both look great. And of course their home is festive with holiday decorations and lots and lots of bears!

We sit down to eat shortly and enjoy a full turkey feast with all the trimmings. We maxed out on carbs, but hey, it's Christmas. Everything was great. I really liked Elaine's broccoli, mushroom, tomato and parmesan vegetable side-dish. We retired to the living room with glasses of wine after cleaning up the kitchen. We caught up on news and events of the past year. It was nice to visit again.

After resting for a few hours we were ready for apple crisp dessert and coffee. Then we played a modified version of Golf, the card game we played at Peggy's last night. (Don't tell Peggy we changed the rules!) We said good night with a promise to call them soon.

We went back home to check our pipes. The trailer was a chilly 53 degrees but the temperature outside is around 36 so no problem. We read the paper and watch the weather at 10:00. Corpus Christi had snow for the first time since 1895! Victoria and nearby had 11 and 13 inches! By some fluke the air here is dry and we missed the entire blanket of snow that covered the Gulf Coast of Texas. Feliz Navidad!

Bob went out at 10:30 to unhook the water and drain the hoses. It's 10:54 p.m. and 32.6 degrees.
