12-15-2004 The Driving Range, City Cafe and West Wing

Wednesday, December 15, I was up at 8:30 to a chilly bedroom of 59 degrees. I would have gotten up earlier but I couldn't make myself get out from under the covers. It only got down to 27 degrees last night; no where near the 17 degrees they predicted. Our water filter was frozen on the end but it soon warmed up on this bright sunny day.

I made Pasta Frittata for breakfast. It was a good excuse to crank up the oven. After breakfast I made Aunt Dottie's Cheese Ball-the first time in my new little Cuisinart. It worked just fine. Later around 11:30 we left for the driving range. It was already 47 degrees, sunny, with no wind. We wanted to try one of our new grips on our 7 irons before we regripped the rest of them. And Bob tried out his new 5-wood. It is a great club; I might have to steal it.

We came home, cleaned our clubs and then I wrapped Christmas gifts and got them ready for mailing. Bob taped up my graphite shafts so we're all ready to regrip tomorrow. We cleaned up and got ready to meet Glenda at City Cafe around 4:00. First we had to unhook and drain the water hose in case of a freeze tonight. We got a paper at City Cafe and then Glenda appeared by our truck. She had been in town for a hair appointment earlier. Bob and I shared fajitas for two-always one of our favorites.

After dinner we followed Glenda to Cedar Hills. Three speed bumps were put right in front of our old homestead. What a bummer! Glenda's home looks very festive for the holidays. Gigi, the black lab, greeted us in the driveway and came in for petting, treats and water. Then she hit the road again. That rat didn't even remember me after all of our morning walks in the neighborhood.

I got to see Glenda's Christmas quilt. It really looks nice. I love the poinsettia border and green print backing. The colors are great with the blocks trimmed in gold. We watched a CSI re-run, had Aunt Dottie's Cheese Ball, coffee and tea. Then we settled in for a new West Wing and finally CSI: NY. Glenda had a roaring fire and it was a very cozy evening. It was a deja vu moment and in some ways it hardly seemed like we had been gone all year.

We left just after 10:00. It is still 47 degrees outside so not nearly as cold as last night. I guess this was because of the clouds that moved in. We read the paper and Bob hit the sack. I'm updating my journal.

It's 11:30 p.m. and 47 degrees.
