12-14-2004 Off with the Old Grips

Tuesday, December 14, the low was only 36 last night. It was no where near the 31 degree freeze they predicted. We had a hole in our drain hose this morning so Bob cut it off at the bad spot. We hadn't used our shorter hose since Cape and it was fine then. Go figure. After breakfast we hauled all of our golf clubs inside and stripped off the old grips and underlying tape; no small task for 26 clubs! We glued on two new grips as a test since we changed style of grips. We regripped our 7-irons . My 7 wood and 4 wood shafts seems to be smaller than standard so we'll need a few more wraps underneath. But we'll test the irons first and see how we like it.

It was almost 3:30 before all of the grips were stripped. By this time we were pretty hungry so we went to City Cafe. We got an Austin paper from the machine out front. We both ordered old favorites; grilled chicken salad for Bob and grilled catfish for me. We splurged on coconut crème and lemon pie with mile high meringues. We stopped for gas on the way home. Back at the ranch we read the paper then stacked the clubs up in the corner out of the way.

I had a 'lightbulb' moment today when I re-discovered my favorite radio station, KGSR 107.1. Definitely one of the things I miss most about Central Texas (their billboards say "Format Smarmat!") Glenda called earlier to say she saw a small fiber optic tree at Dollar General in Elgin. I was just about to call her. I was thinking of her today and thought she might like to gab. We did have a nice chat.

The high today was 55. They are predicting a low of 17 tonight. Wow! It rarely gets to the teens in Austin. Bob fired up the big furnace to make sure it works; no problem. We'll have to disconnect the water hose tonight.

It's 6:39 p.m. and 42 degrees.
