There are beauceau houses sprouting up in and around Manor. The new I-35 by-pass is coming up out of the ground near Parmer and 290. We stopped in the HEB at Parmer for 'real' tortillas and ingredients to make the Christmas Mice we enjoyed at the golf tournament. Next we went to our bank for penny rolls and deposit envelopes to make life easier on the road. In the lobby of the bank I was able to hop on-line (that's new) to check some bills that needed paying. Then we went over to Instant Replay (a local golf shop) to look for fairway woods. Bob found a 5-wood he's been looking for. They're really 'metals' now, not 'woods' but I'm a traditionalist.
While he was out back hitting balls into a net, I found my friend, Marilynn, inside returning a dog she had boarded to the owner of the golf shop. Hugs all around! How fun to run into my pal. And how great after ten months to run into somebody I know out in public! I told her I thought I may have seen Perry turn down an aisle in Elgin's HEB yesterday. She confirmed it could have been him. We promised to get together soon.
Bob bought his 5-metal and we headed towards Golfsmith, detouring for lunch at The Tea House on N. 183. That place always reminds me of my friend, Liz. We always enjoyed lunch at this Vietnamese restaurant with an eight-page menu. It is really fun to know where things are and just decide to go there, instead of roaming around and hoping you drive by a decent place to eat.
We stopped at Einstein Bros. Bagels to get a Houston Chronicle (also fun to know where to get a decent newspaper.) And finally made it to Golfsmith on I-35. Northwest Austin roads had not changed very much (except the freeway is done on 183 north of Spicewood-that was nice!) We bought 26 golf grips and a dozen balls at Golfsmith. We were back home by 5:00 p.m. We read the paper, had a snack and watched TV.
It's 7:51 p.m. and 46.1 degrees.
