12-04-2004 'Loose' Tire and Frothy Monkey

Saturday, December 4, it was warmer this morning at 46 degrees. I took my coffee for one last morning stroll around the lake. I passed a new Alpha Class A on the other end of the campground. They snuck in last night I guess. About half way around the lake a couple came up behind me. When I said "Hi, how y'all doing?" she said "I have to ask about a Texas accent I don't recognize!" I picked up my pace and walked with them (Judy & Charles) from Jackson, MS. He still works so they only travel when they can (they had a 5th wheel before this motorhome.)

I noticed the license plate on their Jeep toad said "See Ya" He had spent a summer working in Traverse City, Michigan, and told us to be sure and go there--in the summer, of course. He said there were great golf courses on Lake Michigan. Judy raved about Mississippi's State Parks for camping.

They said they spent last Thanksgiving here at Lincoln Parish Park in very high winds. I told them about our high water a few nights ago. They are leaving today (in fact we saw them pull out about an hour later.) New friends 'on the road'--easy come; easy go.

After breakfast Bob and I put the DeLorean back on The Beast and tied it down in preparation for our move tomorrow. Then Bob checked all of the fluids and the tire pressure. And a good thing it was too, the truck's spare had blown the valve stem right off and was flat as a pancake. It was rattling back there--so another mystery solved. Wal-Mart is in our future this afternoon. We loaded the laptop in the truck and headed to Wal-Mart, stopping for the Dallas Morning News on the way.

We left the tire at Wal-Mart. They said they rarely get 'loose' tires left there. We drove over to the Frothy Monkey where we found nice tables, free high-speed wireless access and white raspberry tea and white mocha. I got to upload my journals that I worked so hard on yesterday and I also downloaded my mail for the first time in quite a while. They had great jars of whole leaf tea by the pound that I sure hope Rebecca saw when she was here. Bob searched golfcourse.com for places to play near Jacksonville, TX, our next destination.

We left the cyber cafe and drove through the Post Office to mail some items. We got gas at a super crowded Rally ($1.78, best price in town.) And finally, we went back to Log Cabin Mesquite Grill for dinner. Bob had the two boneless quail dinner and I had blackened Mahi-Mahi. Both were excellent. This place is a keeper. We sat at a different table and I saw a yellow caution sign hanging on the wall that I don't know how I missed last time we were there "Depressed Dear Hunter Crossing." I just had to take a picture of it.

Stuffed, we headed back to Wal-Mart. Bob got our tire squared away while I picked up a few groceries. He found me in the produce and we picked up a few more things and headed home around 4:30. We read the paper and worked the puzzles.

I sure do hate to leave here tomorrow. This is one of the few times I'm not ready to move on. Our site is so perfect. It's serene here by the water. We have the place to ourselves and it just seems like paradise. But alas, Texas calls us home.

It's 8:19 p.m. and 50.9 degrees. Bob's cousins called while we were planning tomorrow's trip on the DeLorme mapping software. They must have been getting some kind of ESP vibes because we've been talking about calling them since Thursday night. Patti and I had a nice chat, but our phone service down in the low spot by the lake here gave out. Bob and Bernie got cut off just like I lost my sister on Thanksgiving Day. Technology!
