11-28-2004 Frothy Monkey Mugs

Sunday, November 28, I was up at 7:15 to a 41 degree morning. I walked one and three quarter miles around the lake. There was a lovely dry-ice looking fog/mist hanging over the lake. Several RVers left already. We had a lazy morning finishing yesterday's puzzles. Around 11:30 we left to get a paper and brave Wal-Mart for groceries. We're hoping the mad holiday shoppers are at home putting up their Christmas decorations. Before we left we said our goodbyes to Rebecca and Jeff who were packing their 5th wheel for departure. Rebecca surprised us with Frothy Monkey travel mugs (maroon with a gold monkey!) That was very nice; now we have a remembrance of their visit. We left with hopes to meet up again sometime 'on the road.'

We stopped in the park office and paid for another week. Our spot is so great here on the lake. We're hoping for better weather this coming week. We got the last Sunday paper at Texaco. Wal-Mart was not very crowded. I tried to locate Christmas-y envelopes in the computer printer paper aisle but was laughed out of there. So I'll have to get creative with stickers:-)

Back home we found one Mallard travel trailer left in the entire 33 campsites! Looks like we may be alone this week. I pulled Turkey-Day leftovers out of the frig so I could get our new perishables in. We had a mini-feast, complete with wine. Jeff informed us that this is a dry county. That's why he came prepared with his own stash. We're running dangerously low.

We browsed through the paper. I tried to get The Skins Game on ABC but it was too fuzzy. I was hoping to see Anika Sorenstam mop up Scott, Fred Couples and Tiger. All week when I wanted to watch CSI on CBS, that was the only channel I couldn't get. I'm sure there is a telecommunications conspiracy.

We gave up and went fishing. It's not windy today; the sun is out with some high wispy clouds. I catch two bass on a jointed Rappala right off the bat. Then nothing for over an hour. Finally, I ticked off a small bass with a buzz bait coming back around the lake towards home. The Mallard travel trailer pulled out while we were fishing, but a guy in a Class A pulled in so now there are two of us again. Lots of locals are hiking and biking; walking off all of the holiday eating damage I suspect.

My hands are cold and dusk is settling in so we return home to read the paper and have a snack. I called by folks to see how their Thanksgiving weekend went. Dad's old pal, Eddie B., passed away and they had just returned from the funeral home. Seems like those things often happen around the holidays. Anyway, I had a nice chat with Mom and Dad.

Rain is forecast for Monday and Tuesday (80 to 90% chance.) We're not too happy about that. We'll see....

It's 9:14 p.m. and 49.3 degrees.
