I hung my coat on the ladder out back to air it out from the campfire smoke last night. I had to tie it on with the hood straps the wind was blowing so fiercely. I didn't want to find it on the other side of the lake. I saw Jeff and Rebecca fixin' to leave so I hopped out and gave them our address that I forgot to bring with me last night. Rebecca was hoping to find a Starbucks so I told them where we saw the Frothy Monkey downtown.
Bob and I decided to work a jigsaw puzzle, one of our favorite cold weather diversions. We had a 1,000 piece Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria, Germany. One thousand pieces is our max. We need one tray table to fit all of the pieces on in addition to our dinette table. We took a break and went in to town for a paper, the post office (only open 10-noon on Sat.) and Monjuni's Italian Cafe and Deli. Bob had a great pasta dish of chicken, olives, onions, and peppers in an oil and butter sauce. I had Shrimp Marinara Pasta. We took doggie bags home the portions were so huge. And we also ordered a Milky Way Cake to go for dessert (nothing like planning ahead!)
The owner came by to check on us and when we said we were from Austin he told us that in 1993 there was a Monjuni's in Austin but he didn't know the location. They are out of business now. I knew that funny name was ringing a bell from somewhere. We never went to the one in Austin but I probably remember their ads. The owner 'fessed up when I asked about the 'closed for repairs' sign we encountered on the door on Tuesday. It must be a restaurant code for 'not busy, leaving early for the holidays.' He was bemoaning the grand opening of Chili's last week (I knew it was new but not that recent--no wonder the parking lot is packed every time we go by.)
The wind is blowing like crazy but the sun is out now. The high is only in the low 50's. We stopped at the laundry mat on I-20 on the way home. It was very busy, but they do have a change machine. That's good because we have zero quarters. We'll come back and check it out.
Back home we finished the puzzle, after a short break for Milky Way Cake (very sinful!) We read the paper we got while we were out and worked the crossword. I called my niece, Megan, but no answer--we just can't seem to hook up. I also called Glenda, my Elgin friend. She says to be sure and watch Dr. Phil on Monday. Some of our neighbors in Elgin will be on. It was nice to chat with her. I told her about Tequila, the Chihuahua and Rebecca and Jeff's story about the Diva Dog kiosk at the mall. Tequila got a pink carrier bag that turned out not to be Jeff's favorite thing to carry when the dog got too heavy for Rebecca. Tequila also has a cute pink sweater with a big green "P" on it, for puppy! Anyway, Glenda loves a good dog story. She said Elgin got over five inches of rain. There is lots of flooding in the area.
It's 11:27 p.m. and 47.3 degrees.
