This 49 y/o male came to the ER complaining of acute onset of abdominal pain and nausea. He had no history of previous surgery. There was right lower quadrant tenderness with questionable rebound, temp - 994 F orally, WBC count - 11,000 /mm3. A CT scan was requested to evaluate him for appendicitis. Selected images from the CT performed after the rectal administration of contrast shown above demonstrate findings consistent with an intussusception. Ileal intussusception due to invagination of a Meckel's diverticulum was found at surgery.
