This 20 y/o female complained of pelvic pain. A portion of her KUB shown above demonstrates four well formed teeth on the right side of the pelvis compatible with a well differentiated ovarian teratoma (dermoid). She was referred to a Gynecologist for extraction :-). This confirmed the diagnosis of a mature well differentiated cystic teratoma of the ovary. It contained four well formed teeth and a portion of mandible.
Usually, dermoid cysts contain representative tissues of the three embryonic germ cell layers: ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Sebaceous material, hairs, cartilages, teeth, even thyroid tissue are frequently observed. A well-formed jaw and tongue has been reported.2 Teratomas of other organs have also been reported to contain teeth.13
