Why We Need Our Own God
I’ve been thinking about
this issue for a long time. Thinking about what it means to be a radical faerie and our spirituality and how we are in the
world. We talk a lot about our sexuality being our spirituality, and that is seriously true and I love it. But I’ve
been thinkng about what it means to have a history, a Mythic history, that takes us back to the beginning of time.
All indigenous people have
creation myths, and they inform the tribe’s way of living. In thinking about this I came up with the story on another
website here, a story about the creation of our own world and the God that formed it. I’m not much into divinity but
I thought I’d give anthropomorphizing a god a go, just for the hell of it. Gods can be useful when you wanna write a
Creation Myth.
But you know how these things
go. In reality I really Have been communicating with a being that I’ve called the Faggot God – Fagus is his name
he tells me – and so there’s an element of experience here for me. I’ve come to believe that every group
of people need their own gods. It’s why I so dislike ( ok so I Hate ‘em) the proselityzing religions. They wanna
push their god on everyone. It just doesn’t work. Gods and their offspring fit together for reasons. And I think we
fae folk fit together with our god for reasons. Reasons about why we’re here and what we’re meant to be doing
with our lives. Not a new concept here I know....
Now I’ll totally cop
to this being my own trip, but hear me out ok? There’s been a lot of talk in faeriedom about women faeries and transgendered
faeries and anybody who say they are a faerie and they are. I think it’s a dangerouis trend. And part of the reason
I think that is I believe we all have our own gods. ( and remember when I say “God” I really mean “Spirit
Energy Being of Some Power” cause I really don’t believe in gods per se... ). So I think women have their own god/desses, transgender folk have their own TG Divinities, heterosexuals have their
gods and goddesses and we have the Faggot God.
Everybody has it’s Divinities
( unless you don’t believe in them of course) and it’s tied in with who the People Are. We’re fags and so
we have a faggot god. (dontcha love circular logic). We all have our own spirits that watch over us and help us move towards
True Understanding of Life. And we each need to be working with our Own spirits and not co-opting somebody else's.
I've found that the more I
call the Faggot God, the more He's here with me. I’ve found that the more I reach out to Him in our circles and rituals,
the more Alive He is to me, and maybe you do too. And the more we call him, the better we'll be connected to this Spirit Energy
that's been around as long as humans, but has perhaps been dozing a bit for generations because nobody was trying to check
in with him.
And this leads us to our roles
in the world today. I think faeries have a unique and seriously special place in the order of things. We see things no one
else does. And we can do things no one else can. All we need do is look at out sexuality to see it’s pretty remarkable
and we get to play with it like no other group on the planet. We mix it up so sweet and nice whenever a few of us can get
together with it. Nobody else can do this, except dykes can come close, but we have those male priveleges and we can go out
into parks and certain other public places and such and make our sexual magic and nobody else can do so.
But I’m off on a tangent
here. Sex is a be all and end all but in between, well, In Between is where we do our real magic. We can walk between the
genders, the light and dark, the spirit and the flesh. We have a role as instigators and mediators and propagators of new
ideas and healing the pains of the world as it tries to rebirth itself ( ok, Her-self...). We come together in our circles
and our gatherings and we Heal each other – make ourselves whole again.
And then we go back out into
the world and we Walk Between and we create magic and transform the way people relate to the world around them and we give
them a glimpse of a new way to be, this luvly subject-subject consciousness we’ve been talking about for years. Well,
it’s Real ya know. I talk to straight folks and they really don’t know what I mean till I go thru a long explanation
and then some of them may get it intellectually, but not emotionally, they’re not Embodying the energy of it like we
do. We just need to go and stand next to some of these folks and our energy comes out of us and swirls around them and it
changes them – just a bit maybe, but it starts a chain reaction. We’re catalysts – we’re the spark
in the dark that sets it Off. The Chain/Change reaction.
Now this isn’t something
that just happens, tho it does that too. But we gotta keep playing at it till we get real good and the better we get the more
effect we can have on the world. I remember when we faes used to go out and trip out the people cause we’d be so flippy
lookin’ and we’d do these cool political and environmental action things and it was so cool. Where is that today?
We gotta get back into the mix a bit more. We’ve always held ( Ok some of us have...) that faerie consciousness is about
being Conscious above all else – conscious about the nature of reality and how we fit in it and we Know we barely know
what we’re doing, it’s so new still after 25 years or more. But we know we’re all interconnected and everything
around us is Sacred and each moment is a precious jewel and contains all the rest of time within it, just like Blake’s
grains of sand.
Ok, I’m all talked out for now. But the next page has a nice little
story that's really truly a story of my own connection with a particular Faggot God. Believe it or don't. Whatever. I dug
it and am still diggin' it... and if you really like to read on the net turn the page to the end and you’ll find a link
to this Myth I wrote. I’ll warn you it’s pretty long, but it’s fun too. I’m real interested in what
other faeries have to say about this and how we do what we do and all. So if ya wanna talk to me, Please send me any feedback
you might have. You can do it here.
