A Little Sweetie

After looking at almost a hundred kittens, alley cats, show cats, pedigree cats, I just happened to meet this cute little Seal Point Siamese cat at the San Francisco Animal Care & Control (people used to call it "the pound").

Hiding Out

She was a little hard to see, buried under newspapers, hiding in her cage. If I hadn't looked at her chart and noticed she was Siamese, I might have missed her completely. I was hoping to find a nice Siamese, Russian Blue, or Abyssinian, so I took an interest in her to see if she might be interested in me. She was and it seemed like it might work. After thinking about it overnight, and I went back to get her the next morning.

Unhappy Past

Paddi was apparently discovered in a hotel room after her owner was arrested for prostitution. She was in a cage for over three weeks at the pound before I found her. I imagine that her life in a hotel room was less than ideal. The activities that surrounded her and the care she received was probably poor at best. She was very stressed out and miserable in a cage.

Personality

Once she acclimated to her new home, she developed quite a personality. She likes to be in high places, and she'll play with just about anything. Very well behaved and very curious about anything that moves or opens. Always uses her box. Goes to bed with me at night, curls up either on top or under the covers, and sleeps most of the night. Very loud and very talkative at times.

Getting Healthy and Gaining Weight

When she first came home, I discovered she had fleas, worms, and possible ear mites. We have a wonderful Vet in Los Altos who took special interest in her. After a complete physical and some blood work, the treatment began. She now has no fleas, no worms, and (oops!) no reproductive equipment. She's gaining weight, seems happy and has come a long way.

Naming the Kitty

She has 26 toes instead of the usual 18. This is considered a good omen and very lucky by some people. With that many toe pads, I thought "Paddi" would be a good name for her.

The High & Mighty

Checking things out from the top of her platform. She tried to get on top of the curtain rods, so I built her a ramp and platform that go all the way across. She really loves to play up there, and I frequently find her curled up asleep on the platform side.

Quiet Type

Charlie is very quiet. He investigates every drawer and cabinet he can get open. He's heavier than he thinks he is, so when he jumps he usually barely makes it.  Independent but affectionate, he usually sleeps on my bed.  Instead of meowing like most cats, he hummmms, and doesn't usually have much to say even then.

Animals are like children: innocent and dependent on us to care for them!
I think they give us more than we give them in friendship and love.
