| The White House 36" x 48" Oil on Canvas 2009 |
From Greenwich
Village to South Beach,
from an unheated
dark storefront in Hell’s Kitchen to a hot green trapezoid in Knightsbridge; from the dapple of an avocado farm
in the Galilee to the dapple of my roof garden in Williamsburg… I’ve looked for the light…cool,
cold, warm, hot. Studied light’s partner…shadow…
dark, transparent,
shapely. Basked in, baked in, swam, slept, dreamt, sketched and painted the light, like my mother’s light touch,
brushing the hair back from my high white brow, to lie serene on my grandmother’s patchwork quiet. It’s
still the same. We’re all here. And now, you are also, I’m so glad.
