This series of paintings... Where
are the bees? Is inspired by my infatuation with flowers. For a lucky decade, every spring, I planted a roof garden
in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The pink canopy of a fragrant blossoming Mimosa treetop shaded my garden. This rooftop
Eden showed me how hard working and integral bees are to the life of a garden. Without our diligent bees, flowers will not
be pollinated and without pollination there will be no flowers; without a flower there is no fruit. Without fruit, there is
no food; without food there is no life.
So these genre paintings the classic
"still life"...are a prayer for the preservation of Life. Over the years, this NYC hunter/gatherer, has salvaged bud vases
from thrift stores and medicine cabinets, and collected blossoms from flower pots, sidewalk cracks, and farmer's markets,
creating alters of tiny bouquets on my kitchen table. This past year's news stories about the death of 25% of America's North
East beehives, prompted me to enlarge these miniatures 1600%...a scale change to emphasize and honor...little flowers/lush
life.
