Quality Assurance Workshops

Solar alignment method for wind sensors
Solar Method One of the best tools for learning technology and techniques is interactive workshops with professionals that have been in the measurements field for many years. This was the case when I met Tom Lockhart at Meteorological Standards Institute. I had the privilege of working with him on several projects in the mid 1980s that really made me appreciate the wealth of experience and knowledge he had to offer. After conducting some data uncertainty analyses for the South Central Coast Cooperative Aerometric Monitoring Program with him, we began working more extensively together on various quality assurance projects. In 1989 I attended his first quality assurance workshop presenting his revisions to Volume IV of the EPA Quality Assurance Handbook on Meteorological Measurements.  Subsequent to the first workshop, I sponsored two more workshops while I was working for AeroVironment.  I then joined his workshop faculty in 1993 presenting topics on upper-air measurement quality assurance. Since then I have been a regular faculty member for the workshops teaching the upper air as well as surface meteorological techniques and quality assurance for air quality measurements. Our last workshop together was in Napa, California in the summer of 2000. Later that year he became very ill and passed away in January 2001.  This was a major loss of a good friend. In addition, the measurement community has lost the largest pool of meteorological measurement knowledge in a single person. He will be greatly missed.

I have decided to continue the workshop series we had developed over the years and move forward with the presentation of traditional as well as new and innovative measurement and quality assurance techniques.  To this end I will be offering another workshop in the spring of 2003.  The location will be in southern California and will be open to all that are interested in surface and upper air quality assurance for meteorological measurements.  Follow this link to my Workshop Announcement page.
