SF6 Tracer Studies

In the early 1980's, and while under the employ of AeroVironment, I developed a continuous tracer analyzer for the part-per-trillion measurement of SF6 tracer. The instrument was used extensively in both laboratory and field environments. Field uses included helicopter and fixed wing aircraft sampling platforms. The primary advantage of the system was the insensitivity of the operation to pressure or temperature changes. This allowed the use of the instrument in fine scale plume mapping and dispersion studies. These studies have ranged from emission factor development to plume dispersion measurements (both aloft and at the ground) and indoor air quality evaluation using tracers to simulate and track movement of toxic compounds throughout buildings. I have presented several papers describing the instrument. Their titles are shown below. More details can be found on my publications page .
