For years, the West Covina
Brotherhood of Model Railroaders have been
talking about having a color scheme for the
diesel locomotives of the club's Sierra Cajon
& Pacific RR. Recently, something was done
about it: a contest was run among the members
to see who could design a livery that would
enable anyone to duplicate it on his own
equipment. Entrants had to be sure their
colors and lettering are commercially
available. Each scheme was to be used on a
hood unit and on a cab unit to illustrate the
simplicity or the complexity of the scheme.
Some entries are shown here. |
| This U33C by Stan Hayes
of Montclair, Calif., won first place
for the contemporary-style paint
scheme. His F7 A and B have captured
the post merger look. |

|
| The GP9 scheme submitted
by Hank Graham of Walnut will be used
on his Keystone Copper Mines RR.
Hank's F7 A and B units closely
resemble EMD's color scheme on the
cover of OUR GM SCRAPBOOK. |

|
| Dave Stevens of Walnut,
Calif., won first place with this
first generation style even though
SD45 is not considered to be a first
generation diesel. Dave's F7 A aptly
portrays a first-generation unit. |

|
| The most modern scheme submitted was
this entry by Dave Styffe of Baldwin
Park, Calif. The model U28C shows what
imagination can do. |
 |
|
| Bob Atkins of Alhambra,
Calif., entered this F7 and this
SW1500. Another entry, by Rick Jones
of Buena Park, Calif., was not
available for photographing because
Rick is in the U.S. Navy. All photos
were taken by "SD" Hayes.
Information was supplied by Hank
Graham. |
