What Makes the Pricing Different?
The shorter, fatter and more smashed the face the higher the price.
When Will The Pups Be Ready For Their New Home?
They let me know, so it's hard to fix a date. Normally it is when they are 7 -8 weeks old. If a pup is going to get sick, it will normally be within a week to 10 days after they are weaned. I certainly do not want you to get an unhealthy pup therefore the extra time helps to insure that you don't.
Do You Ship Your Pups? If Not, Why?
We do not ship our puppies. Airlines will not ship pets in the summer or winter. The trip is traumatic plus being unsafe (over 5,000 animals were injured last year - 1999 during shipping by airline). I cannot bear to ship the pups. I got as far as the airport once but turned around and came home with the pup. I'm just an overly protective "Mama". We encourage people to come to our house to meet "our gang", the parents and grandparents of their new puppy.
Do you accept deposits?
I accept deposits on specific pups only. However once you have made a deposit, it will not be refunded if you change your mind or you are unable to pick up the pup for any reason.
What is your Health Guarantee?
We guarantee against inherited defects, such as heart murmur,
small trachea, etc. We do not guarantee against puppy diseases
because we cannot control the environment once the pups has left us.
Bulldogs will experience skin problems if not properly groomed.
I will forward an article on Grooming upon request.
Several of mine have at one time or the other had a "hot spot" which is a fungus.
I believe this is the result of getting too warm and wet.
It mainly happens in the spring or fall when the temperature fluctuates and
therefore hard to second guess.
The pup will be given their first puppy shot, and be checked by our vet prior
to being delivered into your hands. It is necessary to be extremely prudent
in protecting a puppy until the full series of puppy shots have been given.
Normally there are 4 shots given every 2-3 weeks in hopes of catching it's
immunity system when it is receptive.
The shots protect against several often fatal puppy diseases and it is possible
that a single shot may give no protection or full immunity.
There is no way of knowing.
My advice is to keep the puppy home and ask all visitors to wash their hands
prior to handling the pup. Friends and neighbors can bring a virus into your
home on their hands or shoes.
Where Are You Located?
We are building a house, with our own hands, in the country 80 miles east of Memphis, TN right on the Mississippi/Tennessee state line. To approximate where we are located, find Corinth, MS. on a map.
What's Your Environment?
It's a real Zoo plus the house is only 80% complete (still under construction). Our style of living is "camping out". We started building the house and shortly thereafter my husband was diagnosed as having cancer. He was one of the lucky ones but since we had both "retired" the medical bills stripped us of cash we were planning on using for the house. He had to go back to work. Almost immediately I got an additional 10 dogs (long story). After that I had to stay here full time to look after them. So there was no going back to our other house at night. Recently, my husband retired again and we getting ready to finish the house.
How Many Pets/Dogs Do You Have?
The last time I counted I had 16 adult bulldogs. Some of older,
"retired" bullies were given to us by a breeder that was switching to smaller
breeds. Now, you wouldn't ask
a drug addict what they were on or an alcoholic how much they drank,
so you can't ask me 'How Many'! Let it suffice to say from morning to night
I'm taking care of dogs: walking, bathing, clipping nails, feeding, cleaning up after,
washing doggie clothes, etc. At least once a week they have chicken that I
cook and take off the bone. They are spoiled rotten and take their turn
being with "mama".
Our attitude has been "there is always room for one more".
I had just placed the last of my "rescue dogs", I was actually down by one
so what did I do - I GOT another one! Then 2 stray dogs "came to stay".
My vet just shook his head when I took it in to be neutered.
I should be getting a discount by now; I'll have to check on that.
I could, but won't, fill 20 e-mails talking about our bulldogs,
stray dogs that have come to stay; "someone's thrown away" cats that
live under the porch and my husband's crazy parrot, named Cheech.
Do You Have Children?
No. I've never had children.
My dogs take the place of the children.
My Mother swears my dogs are treated better than a lot of children in this world.
Although I take in stray dogs, cats and people please don't let this
give anyone the idea that they can start dropping off kids,
like people drop off their dogs. I just couldn't handle more teenagers.
We have enough in the neighborhood that we try to look after.
What Will I Need For A New Puppy?
Your new puppy is a baby and must be treated as such. Things you will need:
Box
A large box like a TV shipping container, really solid.
This will be a temporary home for the puppy until you decided how you want
to confine him/her when you are sleeping or away from home.
We use a medium size metal crate, which can be ordered from J-B Wholesale Pet
Supplies, Inc., item #1236 $49.95 plus shipping. Call 1-800-526-0388 to order a
catalog and be prepared to wait a couple of weeks.
Newspaper
About a foot tall stack of old newspaper to be used
as a liner to his/her box.
Tee-shirts
Lots of old tee-shirts or sheets for making a bed.
They are soft and easily washed.
Baby Blanket/Doggie Sweater
For the first couple of weeks,
we recommend you use a baby blanket to cover the pup, including the head,
when taking he/she from the house to the car etc. if it is cold or windy.
They are much too young to be exposed to the winter elements.
Wait a couple of week to start their potty training and then use the sweater
whenever they go outside, unless they are extremely "hot" natured.
Heating Pad
For the first couple of weeks, I recommend using a
heating pad on the low setting and placing it at one end of the box.
Make sure that it is ONLY at one end the pup must be able to get off the pad
if it becomes too hot.
Baby Toys
Puppies love baby rattlers, stuffed toys and teething rings. Watch for them
at a garage sale and buy lots.
Distilled water
We have well water to which no chemicals have been added.
Chlorine will upset the puppy's intestinal system if he is not switched over
gradually. Give only distilled water the first week. After that gradually
work in a small amount of tap water each day while monitoring the pups stool
to ensure the digestive system is not upset.
Harness & Lead
Get your baby accustomed to a harness now.
Buy the figure 8 type made for cats. While you are there go ahead and buy a
small size adjustable harness to use in a few weeks.
I usually get mine at Wal-Mart, the adjustable type that you can let out as
puppy grows. DO NOT USE A COLLAR ON A PUP. Even after receiving this warning,
a new owner used a collar. The pup got tangled up and choked to death before
it could be rescued.
