The Seekers Forum
During my first stint as president of the Unitarian Unitversalist Fellowship of Hemet-San Jacinto Valley, a local funeral home, the McWane Family Funeral Home, Inc., sponsored a weekly Sunday morning program on a local radio station, WHSJ, entitled THE SEEKERS FORUM. The intent of this was to let ministers of the local churches present their views of topics that seemed to be of current interest to the community. Each Sunday a different minister would be questioned by the host, Barbara Thompson, so that he or she could present views about a particular topic. After all invited ministers had been given their chance, the topic was changed and the cycle was repeated. The programs were taped and then aired. Prior to taping, Barbara would submit questions to the participants so that they could give the subject matter some thought prior to being questioned during the taping session. Since the Fellowship had no minister, and since I, as president, was the apparent spokesman for the group, Barbara invited me to participate. Following is a listing of the topics that were covered over the five-year life of the program with Links to the presentations that I had made:
Apr. 23, 1989: Mostly Introductory
Nov. 19, 1989: A Somewhat Deeper Introduction
Apr. 24, 1990: Biblical Puzzlers
July 17, 1990: Death and Dying
April 7, 1991: The Family
June 30, 1991: Human Relationships
Jan. 5, 1992: Our Children: Past/Present/Future
June 14, 1992: L.O.V.E.
Feb. 6, 1994: Ethics, Integrity and Family Values
(In the presentations, Barbara's comments were often shortened since by their nature they had to keep similar content from week to week to insure continuity.)
