Joe and Lynda at a birthday
dinner in February 2005
Welcome
to
our webpages. Joe and Lynda have been rather busy these last few
years with family things and our house. So we haven't been as diligent
in updating these pages of late. And once Lynda became an employable
permanent resident, she gladly gave up web pages for working in a bookstore.
So that's our excuses but luckily Lynda had a little time to play with
these pages while on a visit to Vancouver in December 2007. You can
see below the links to her new and updated pages. She hopes to get
at the pages on Vancouver and Houston at some time in the future, but will
wait until she can do it properly. Joe is going to be very busy for
the next 20 months, working full time and going back to school, so don't
look for his page to be updated any time soon. We tend to use Facebook
a lot these days for daily updates of how we are doing and general information
about life at chez Rousseau. If you're on there, look us up.
-------------
If you haven't been to these webpages here yet, come on in and look around.
Joe and I are from Canada and we still find it hard to believe sometimes
that we are living here in
Houston,
TX. Not only that we live here, but have done so for almost 10 years
(we arrived in Houston on March 14, 1998), when our original intention
was to stay here for three. We bought a house in 2001 and spent a
lot of time and money on getting it to be just to our liking. You
can track our progress on our House
page. We're finally getting it how we like it, there's only a few more
things to do. But now that we've been in the house 6 years, it's
getting to be time to go back to the beginning and start painting again.
Lynda would like to see the guest bathroom tiles this year (2008) and perhaps
another project if there's time.
For a long time Lynda couldn't work at all while we wound our way through the green card process -- it took about six years all together. Things have changed quite a bit since we last updated these pages. Lynda started working, temporarily at first and more recently regularly part time. you can catch up with latest events on her webpage. Joe was promoted at work again and is now running a whole department. In 2008 he begins an MBA at Tulane while Lynda continues working in a Barnes and Noble to discount and service her book addictions.
In September
of 2004 Joe and Lynda got two crazy kittens,
Smoke
and Spot who kept us so entertained that we gave them their own webpage.
Collectively they're Smot,
but in October 2007 we adopted a new kitten, a stray that Lynda found while
away at a scrapbooking weekend. Scrappy
is still young and watching her chase her 12 lb brothers around the house
is very entertaining. Now we have to think of a new collective name
for them
all... Smoty? Smots? What do you think?
We still miss friends and family and comforts of home (cool summer evenings, Canadian authors, the smell of the pacific, and Tim Horton's Donuts). That's why we've created this little collection of pages -- mostly for our own amusement but also to keep friends and family up to date on our exploits, trips, house, kitties and hobbies. There's a lot to see, so take your time and explore. Lynda would love to tell you about the books she enjoys, we've got some information on Houston and Vancouver (though it's somewhat outdated -- something to get to when the pressing pages are done) and lots of photos of ourselves, the kitties and more.
Sometimes we're still surprised by the fact that we live here in Houston (Lynda certainly never imagined she'd be living in the United States) and still at times we struggle with the differences -- mostly with the weather. It's hard living with the heat in the summer -- Lynda misses cool nights with open windows and no airconditioning. Joe still has to wear a fleece to work in the summer, because of the cold in his office building, so he's plenty happy to get out into the heat at the end of the day. Certainly we've never had to prepare for a hurricane in either Vancouver or Houston. (see the 2005 Christmas letter) But I still get asked to say "about" and occasionally we still run into things that cause us to shake our heads. I get a kick out of Americans trying to say "eh" like a Canadian. They just can't do it! But now that we've been here so long, we're just as likely to be surprised by things that we don't recognize back home. Have a look around and see what you think. One quick note: most of our pages have photographs, sometimes quite a few of them so they can take some time to load. Also, these pages are best viewed using Mozilla or Netscape browsers.
New Pages:
Christmas Letter: The Christmas 2007 letter is here and joining the other Christmas letters on the site. Christmas Letter: We hadn't put up the Christmas 2006 letter, so it's here now too. 3 Kitties: We now have a three kitty household. Scrappy came into our lives in October 2007 and things haven't been the same since! Scrappy: Scrappy needed her own page since the boys already have two pages. After her introduction, look for all the kitties to share a single page.
Unfortunately in the last year, Lynda and Joe have not had any time to work on house projects. It seems unlikely, given Joe's return to school that any projects will get done until August of 2009 unless we hire someone to do them. Keep checking back as Lynda would like to do the guest bathroom soon, and we'll see if she gets it done and then gets it up on the webpage. But we do have some updates for you:Lynda's Page: Lynda finally updated her webpage this month. Also linked and updated are the BookTalk page and Backlog page.
.
Thanks for dropping in on our page and we hope you'll be back soon....
