Looking for Gold & Silver, be it coins, jewelry or relics from the past. This
is another past time I have enjoyed since 1970.
I have used most brands of metal detectors since that time: White's, Garrett, Bounty
Hunter, Tecknetics, C & G, Bounty Hunter, Fisher, D Tex, Relco, Jetco, Tesoro, Troy X-5, Minelab, Detectorpro to name
a few.

For those who were
interested in adding external Ground Balance to gain a sharp increase in performance, I have written up instructions with

THE MINELAB STERLING
The Sterling is a vintage detector made by Minelab of Australia. First
introduced in 1993 with a white open center searchcoil.
The Sterling (blue model) pictured is identical to the Minelab Tribune
(green model) which was marketed in the UK. In 1994, they were relabeled as the Musketeer X in both the blue and green metal
housings as the Sterling. It also, came equipped with a newer and better constructed solid white, water resistant searchcoil.
These are really excellent working detectors. The Sterling I own has comparable
performance to my mod'd Tesoro Cibola, just a bit heavier.
The original white water resistant searchcoil on my Sterling was replaced
with black searchcoil. It is the waterproof DD Slimline 800 searchcoil used on current Musketeers. This coil actually measures
7 1/2" and weighs more than the whitecoil. Coil performance of the solid white and the black coils are identical.
Aftermarket searchcoils that fit current Musketeers will fit all earlier
models.
The Sterling, Tribune, Musketeer X evolved into the Colt, Musketeer XS and current Musketeer Advantage.
Super Tune your Sterling for max. performance?

A while back I did an air test with the Tesoro Cibola, pre Ground Balance
mod, also using a Tejon. Granted air tests don't mean much but does give an idea of depth. It's potental depth in perfect
ground conditions. Most of all it can be used to check your detectors performance from year to year. If it doesn't air test
the same, it may need to be shipped back to Tesoro for a tune-up.
You can view the air test by clicking the links below.
There is
a wonderful field test that can be viewed at Lost Treasure Magazine online written by Andy Sabish.
