Mrs. B

Mrs. B was the final person to join the Boogie Band, but her joining was a foregone conclusion. She has been playing with Mr. B in various contexts since 1992, long before she took on the Mrs. B persona. She officially became "Mrs. B" in June of 1998 and as such has been a guiding force in the Boogie Band's growth.

Mrs. B is the Boogie Band's reigning trumpet queen. Her music career began in the classical music, jump-started by her being named first trumpet in the All-New England orchestra at age 14. Over time, symphony orchestras took a back seat to big bands, jazz combos, and funk groups. In the mid-90's, while studying art at RISD (the Talking Heads' alma mater), she co-led the popular Rhode Island groove band Mythical Ethical Tricycle. Meanwhile, under the layman's-name Kate TenEyck, she is also a successful visual artist, specializing in printmaking and sculpture. As such, she came to the Boogie Band with the skills to handle creations such as the CD's eye-catching cover. Since June of 1998, she has been married to jazz musician and Boogie Band impresario Noah Baerman.

Noah says: having Mrs. B in the horn section gives me the unique opportunity to write for someone who not only has a strong classical technique, but also understands the nuances of popular music.

Mr. B says: this ain't just me wanting my old lady in the band. Check it out - my old lady can PLAY!

Mr. B's CD pick: listen to my baby blow her horn on Los Gatos.
