NYC Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum's Testimony on the Renovation

What are the sources for the estimated $16 million for all this construction?

The City is putting up 3.3 million dollars so far. NYU is committed to one million dollars. The Tisch family is paying 2.5 million dollars, dedicated only to moving the fountain. And for this, they get to rename it as well.

This leaves 9.2 million in funding unaccounted for.

From where is the rest of the money coming? Why have the sources and amounts not been made public? What concessions is the city giving away to get the money?

What will happen if the city suffers budget problems halfway through construction with the Park closed? Where will the money come from?

What will happen if one of the major donors has a financial setback and is unable to contribute the money?

Who will make sure the project is ever completed?

Without all these questions answered in a public forum, this project should be stopped or delayed now.

On the other hand, there might be alternate sources to pay for the redesign. Here are some examples of how the Park might look with more outside funding...
