·       Lighting of the Sacred Fire:

Distribute candles

Light one candle, light others from the same

All light the Sacred Flame

"From the Source of All is lit the flame that is life,

"We are all interconnected through this flame,

"We each support one another through the Web of life,

"Let us light the Source Flame together!"

·       Affirmation:

"There is light above, there is light below,

"The light shines bright for all to see,

"There is light without, there is light within,

"The light shines bright in you and me!"

·       Lighting of the Signpost Candles:

"We gather together to recognize the Divine through our inner paths of Devotion, Wisdom, and Realization,

"We gather together to nurture the Divine through our outer paths of Action, Compassion, and Celebration,

"We gather together to worship the Divine in harmony."

Now is harvest time: the time when our yearly journey turns from inward nurturing to outward functioning.

We have planted the seeds of our spiritual lives for this year.  We have nurtured and cared for them.  And we have watched them grow to fruition.  Now we can see the fruits of our labors.

And what crops have we raised this year?  Have we grown or have we suffered setbacks.  As a nation, we have gone from the peace of only a few years ago to a time of war, when we bring hope to a land which seems to not want it.  As a world we help kindle the fires of peace in the Middle East between two peoples who seem to be so rooted in their mutual hatred that they don't want peace.  And in many of our personal lives we have grown spiritually, and we have suffered setbacks -- perhaps "growing pains" in our lives.

Now we stop for a moment to see just where we are.  Are we moving forward?  Are we at a standstill?  Are we moving backward?

One thing to remember is that we are all interconnected, interrelated, and interdependent through the Web of Life.  So our growth or lack of growth affects the rest of us all.  We can give strength to the rest of the Web when we have it, and we can gain strength from the Web when we need it.

·       Activity: Sharing the light: from candle to candle

·       Simple feast: cornbread and water
