Fires of Creation

This is the time of harvest: a time when we take the time to look back on
the fruitfulness of our actions this year. We each spin a strand of the Web
of Life; a strand of the universal dream. We strengthen each other, we support
each other, and we learn from one another. We've all set goals for our lives
this year. Now we pause for a moment to see how far we have come with these
goals.
(a moment of silence and reflection)
(Distribute candles and ask each person to light their candle from the
altar flame.)
Tonight, we also look at how we relate to one another. Each of us is a part
of the universal dream. We are all born of the same universal source -- the
same universal fire. Each life is but a small flame lit from the fire of
creation. Everything we are is a reflection of the moment of creation. And
in the end, we light the fires of the future.
We stand in a world where animals are killed for sport, where children are
killed for their shoes, the colors of their shirts, or simply as a cry of
help from other children, and where adults are killed for personal and political
reasons.
We understand that each life is sacred -- each life is but a sacred flame
lit from the same cosmic fire we are. We need to protect life, to respect
life, and to celebrate the varieties of life.
And so I leave you with this thought: perhaps if we can teach this simple
truth to others we can end much of the madness of the world.
