[This group meditation was written to help illustrate that we are a
part of all that exists: part of the human race, part of the earth, part
of the universe. It is designed to help us realize that by "plugging ourselves
in" we can become a part of the whole, and perhaps get better meaning from
life.]
Now, slowly, a light begins to shine overhead. You notice that you are standing
on a smooth surface, extending in all directions as far as you can see. As
the light becomes brighter you begin to make out jagged details in the ground
below you.
You are standing on a gigantic jigsaw puzzle made up of countless pieces.
The puzzle is so huge that you can't make out the whole picture. It goes
beyond the horizon in every direction, as far as you can see.
Now, look around you. Near you is an empty space for a puzzle piece.
Search yourself for it. You find that you are carrying the piece that fits
here. As you look around yourself you notice that there are others here as
well -- and that each one of them is carrying a puzzle piece which fits in
a place near them. You see people, and animals, and trees, and flowers, and
rocks -- every kind of thing imaginable. And each one has a piece of the
puzzle with them.
Now take your piece and plug it into the puzzle. As you do so you notice
that it begins to glow brightly. The glow envelopes your whole body and youtingle
with a sacred warmth.
Suddenly, you become the puzzle. You see the whole p icture / you are the
whole picture! You become each one of its pieces. You are a star, burning
brightly in the darkness. You are a planet, orbiting a warm sun, with a growing
ecosystem on your surface. You are the oceans, swimming with life, dancing
with the energy of the moon. You are the rocks, building a foundation for
the world and providing the minerals which make up all things. You are the
grasses, holding the ground firm and providing nourishment for the animals.
You are the trees, the flowers, the clouds, the animals, the people. You
are all things, everywhere. You are the Web of Life, linking everything together.
Now, you remove your piece from the puzzle, knowing that you can plug it
in again whenever you wish. Near you, you find a hot-air balloon. You climb
into it and begin to rise above the puzzle. As you do so, you begin to see
the whole picture. You see the stars, and planets, the oceans and rocks,
the grasses and trees, the animals and people. You see all things in the
puzzle, and you realize that it is all things. You have a piece of this puzzle
within you always, and you can become the puzzle again at any time.
As you continue to rise above the puzzle, the light begins to grow dim and
soon all is blackness around you again.
