Science is taught to all our students from K through 8th grade!
The curriculum is standards based and also integrated into the religous studies.
Our hands-on, minds-on
child centered science lab typically
focuses on developing ideas by making connections between ideas and evidence through an inquiry-oriented, inductive approach
in which data is collected and interpreted to build up to a main idea or conclusion. Emphasis is placed on building
scientific literacy and using a scientific method to write/communicate ideas in our 5-8th grade classrooms. Students
learn the method in steps in our K-4 classrooms. Our annual K-8 Science Fair celebrates our students' own
investigations!
Middle School: Science is
minds-on, hands-on labs, inquiry based, technology supported everyday! We follow the California science
standards and more! Grade 6 concentration is Earth Science, Grade 7 does Life Science, and Grade
8 does Physical Science. Grades 7 & 8 may participate in the regional, GSDSEF, & State Science Fairs!
Grade 6 participates in our school Science Fair. Students complete projects at home with teacher, parent, and sometimes
mentor guidance.
K-5th: Science is team taught with classroom teachers.
It is a hands-on, inquiry based lab experience once a week in the science lab and more in the classrooms. Grades K-2
each participate in our school Science Fair with CLASS projects. In addition, students may do individual
projects at home with parent guidance, if they wish. Grades 3 & 4 students each do individual projects in class
with the guidance of their teacher (parents are welcome to assist). Grade 5 completes their projects
at home with the guidance of their teachers and parents.
