The Postmark Newsletter
(a net magazine)
POSTMARK ADVISORY
The Web address of this site is http://www.home.earthlink.net/~postmark1/
This web site is related to pictorial postmarks. There are two pages that
are the most important:
1. There are several pages which include the word POSTMARKS in the title.
Find the page with the most recent date and go to that page. On that page
you will find information about current pictorial postmarks that you can send
away for. There are also two other pages with similar information. These
have dates which are either two weeks older or one month older.
2. There is also a page titled HOW-TO-DO-IT. This page will tell you a lot
of information about how to send for these postmarks and other aspects of
collecting postmarks. If you are new to this collecting area you should
study this section.
I update this net publication twice a month. If you wish to see if there
are any interesting cancels to send away for, you might wish to check in
with us on the first and the 16th of each month. Although it has not
happened yet, it is possible that my update may be delayed a day or two. I
hope that you will be patient should this happen.
My name is Paul Brenner and I publish a weekly newsletter (mail), called
The Postmark Advisory, that gives information about all of the currently
available pictorial postmarks used by the United States Postal Service (USPS.)
Due to the 30-day grace period permitted by the USPS you may obtain these
pictorial postmarks after the date of use if your request is postmarked not
later than 30 days after the last date of use of the cancel. In order to get
these cancels you must have a source of US stamps. At present, a
subscription to The Postmark Advisory is available only by mail. This net
publication gives a sample of ONLY a few of the many cancels currently
available.
There are about 2,500 to 3,000 pictorial postmarks used by the USPS in any
one year. In one year our newsletter brought to its subscribers information
about close to 1,000 of these pictorial cancellations that was not available
from any other source, even the USPS itself!! Whenever possible a picture is
included. Also, we are sometimes able to provide information about available
cachets and the background of the event. A few sample entries are shown in
each Net issue. A paper copy of the "How-To-Do-It" sheet is included with
the initial copy of each subscription.
