Place for a Rainbow

A planar project which reflects changes
of light and the sky. It would function
at sites without tower blocks, as e.g.
an entrance to the underground, to a
square or to a park. A place of rest in
the center of Prague at the Old Town
Square - the site of the former Town
Hall, an empty lawn at present.

My project is based on the movements of
the sky and its light changes. The
object would consist of a twenty meters
wide mirror ÒlakeÒ (polished metal), in
which the deep sky would reflect, with
its colors and movements. It would be
the sky on the ground. People walking on
this surface would feel like flying, and
like escaping gravity. The mirror ÒlakeÒ
would be cooled by shallow water canals.

This space would bare its specific
meaning at night, when the night sky
would reflect in it. The second part of
the project of the ÒsiteÒ would be
placed in the middle of the mirror
surface, where a glass pool with a
crystal shape (3,5m wide and 3m deep)
would be sunk. The surface of the mirror
and the upper surface of the crystal
would be on one level. The crystal would
penetrate underground where it would
create a ceiling of a rounded room. When
the sun shines, there would be a rainbow
created by the reflection of the light
on the walls of the room. This light
spectrum would be moving with the
changes of the position of the sun in
the set line - the place for a rainbow.
At night the light spectrum would be
constant, created by the reflection of
street lights at the walls of the water
crystal. There would be a clean white
space with a blue hole leading into the
water surface of the crystal. The
rainbow which announces the movement of
the sun works here as a living jewel in
a room. There would be two entrances
into this space.

The rest of the area around the ÒlakeÒ
would be transformed into a park with a
lawn.
