Bygone?

The installation BYGONE? should be a
trip to the future, a reminder of the
ÒseaÒ past of Prague. How would the
Prague panorama look after the return of
the sea to its original height?

Description:
A telescope-like device, similar to
those which we can see at important
view-points, would be placed at
PetÞ’nsk‡ lookout tower. It would look
completely the same as a standard
telescope, so that a random visitor to
the place would look into it, expecting
a panorama of Prague spires and roofs.
To his/her big surprise, there would be
a view of an endless sea surface. It is
quite possible, that there would be the
tops of the highest spires jutting out
of the water. The telescope would be
moveable, and in an ideal case, the
perception of the sea would be
adjustable to the time of the day, or to
the weather. At a close look, a barely
audible sound of sea surf would be
heard.

Technical conditions:
Telescope (a standard type could be
adjusted, or a laminate replica), SGI
Impact, or perhaps also the O2, tracker,
LCD display, headphone loudspeakers and
various complements.

Rose

There is a three-dimensional object
placed at the Internet WWW server,
looking like a tropical flower. Its
size, shape and color change over the
time depending on the number and
character of the people looking at it. A
businessman from New York causes
different changes than a Japanese
student, or a German clerk. The flower
lives from human interests and reflects
their spectrum.

Realization:
The shape, size and color of the object
are defined by a set of equations, into
which the information about the guests -
computers which enter in contact with
the server, are substituted. The
depiction is reached by means of the
Java applet. The spectator can see at
his page a three-dimensional object,
which can be turned by the mouse.

Placement:
The rose is placed in a virtual,
physically non-existing space, shared by
millions of people from all over the
world, who will be able to enter it on
the Internet - www.avu.cz/~silver/rose.
