Yellow-crowned Night-Heron at Cook Forest State Park, Jefferson County side
This Yellow-crowned Night-Heron was discovered in late July in the most unlikely of places: along the Clarion River in
the heart of Cook Forest State Park (yes, that Cook Forest, the place more famous for crossbills and giant pine trees). It
took me over a month to make my way up there, but the day that I got there, the bird was still foraging in the same few square
yards of the river (Jefferson side) that it had been using for weeks. It was certainly one of the more cooperative subjects
I've seen in awhile.
