Franklin's and Glaucous Gulls at Blue Marsh Lake, Berks County, PA
The beach at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area at Blue Marsh Lake has been a collection point for roosting gulls recently,
and the numbers of Herring and Ring-billed Gulls there have recently been in the thousands (mostly Ring-billed, of course).
Along with these have come a few rarities, most notably a Franklin's Gull (Berks' second), and a Glaucous Gull. Both of these
are shown below on the afternoon of the 19th. There were also three Lesser Black-backed Gulls present that day. The scene
reminded me of the gull situation in Pittsburgh, where the makeup is almost identical at times in late December and again
in February: thousands of Ring-billed, a hundred or so Herring, a Glaucous, a Lesser Black-backed or two, and a Franklin's.
Wait, scratch that last one... just daydreaming now.
