Green-tailed Towhee at Blue Marsh Lake, Berks County, PA
After it had been present for nearly a month (first reported 20 Nov), I finally had a chance to catch up with this bird
at Blue Marsh Lake on my way home from the Say's Phoebe in Bucks County. It proved elusive, which was not surprising considering the clear weather and the fact that I did not show
up until midday. It only appeared once and stayed tucked away in the brush, and the photo below was the only reasonable one
I could manage. It was a nice binocular view of a neat bird, anyway.
This individual represents Pennsylvania's fourth of the species. Two of the previous three successfully wintered here
(one in Bucks in 1987-88 and one in Montgomery in 1994-95), so with this bird already hitting the four week mark, perhaps
it too will remain for several more weeks to come.
