Black Scoter - November 20, 2009

Black Scoter at Dashields Dam, Allegheny County, PA

Representing probably only the fourth or fifth record for Allegheny County, this first winter Black Scoter at Dashields Dam is without a doubt the most cooperative in the county's history. Since its appearance 11/20, it has spent its days feeding and resting along the south bank of the Ohio just feet from the Dashields access road. Careful approach while the bird was diving allowed some very close views and photography, by far the best series I've ever made of this species.
