This juvenile Brant, representing just the second record for Allegheny County, was a surprise find by the venerable Jack Solomon at Duck Hollow on 19 November. The only other record for the county was of a bird on the Youghiogheny River at Boston in the first week of January 2002. It took a bit of waiting, but the bird eventually approached the observation area in the late afternoon and allowed this portrait.
