Little Gull at Presque Isle State Park, Erie County, PA
For the second time in three years I had great success photographing Little Gulls during the first week of April at
Marina Bay, Presque Isle State Park. Today a very cooperative adult periodically fed in the western end of the bay, very near
to the ends of the docks, allowing for some outstanding views. The setup today was a photographer's dream, with a bright clear
sunrise and easterly winds. While foraging, gulls generally fly slowly into the wind as they search for prey, meaning the
target bird was continually flying toward the camera fully lit by the rising sun.
My favorite sequence for the day is shown below, when the bird caught and made off with a fish about 40 feet off the
