Lark Sparrow at Chambersburg, Franklin County, PA
This handsome sparrow from the western United States was discovered frequenting a farm just a few miles north of Chambersburg
on January 10, where it remained for at least the next ten days when these pictures were taken. It proved quite
cooperative and photogenic, along with the large group of White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows with which it
has taken up residence.
Lark Sparrows, a common sight west of the Mississippi River, are casual in Pennsylvania, with a few dozen records
over the years, but records are scarce in winter, with just two accepted occurrences before this one.
