This stunning male Green-breasted Mango has been frequenting the feeders at 500 Rose Ellen Blvd. in south McAllen during the entire winter of 2004-05.  In the mornings, he dominates the feeder in the southwest corner of the yard, driving off all intruding buff-bellied hummingbirds and sunning himself in the soft morning light.  It was in this light that he posed for these pictures, which, needless to say, I am quite happy with.

 

Although the bird shows up periodically throughtout the day, morning is recommended due to the extended views he allows and the exquisite lighting conditions.
